ABOUT REGIONAL SKILLS ALLIANCES
Michigan's Regional Skills Alliances (MiRSAs) are State of Michigan designated, locally managed, employer-led partnerships formed to address workforce issues affecting firms operating in the same industry in a distinct geographic area. Among the challenges the MiRSAs set out to resolve are worker shortages, skill shortages, training mismatches, employee recruitment and retention, and organizational design. Currently in the State of Michigan there are twenty-five regional skill alliances addressing issues ranging from health care to biotechnology.
The Detroit Workforce Development Department (DWDD) serves as the convener for the Long-Term Care Michigan Regional Skills Alliance (LTC MiRSA), overseeing a working group of collaborating partners, whose focus is on the long-term health care industry.

TRAINING GOALS
The LTC MiRSA seeks to improve the training curriculum available at local educational and training providers; create career ladders that lead to improved wages and more responsible positions for entry level caregivers; make more training opportunities available for both new and incumbent workers; and lower where applicable, the vacancy and turnover rates at both nursing homes, home health agencies, assistive living, adult care facilities, and hospitals. The Long-Term Care Michigan Regional Skills Alliance explores opportunities for short-term modular training, distance learning, on-the-job training, computer-assisted self-paced training and on-site training in order to provide learning opportunities without interfering with work schedules and placing barriers to access for low-income workers.
The employer-led LTC MiRSA strives to address the primary areas of skill needs in such areas as; entry-level unlicensed caregivers; certified nurse assistants; licensed practical nurses; and registered nurses. In the five key areas, we address issues related to worker preparation and recruitment, worker supports, career ladder advancement, retention, and workplace adjustments.
